I had a similar problem. When I tried to use the iBook, it wouldn't
connect on the phone line for the computer. An older 7100 connected
with at 28kb modem did work. I even had Pac Bell come out and check
the line, and the service man said it was fine. He even replaced the
outlet just in case. The iBook works fine when plugged into the other
house line, which is for people to talk on.
So if the iBook is fine, and the line is fine, what could be wrong?
The two phones are on different exchanges, the iBook works on 547-, but
not on 655-, so maybe the circuits in Pac Bell central for 655 aren't
up to snuff.
