Microsoft is making some changes to its academic licensing programs
that will affect UC. The transition period for these changes will be
roughly September 2001 through January 2002. These changes will
require that campus staff understand certain choices and meet certain
deadlines in order to get the best value for their license
investments.
In preparation for these changes, I want have a small meeting with
the Microsoft reps to gain a full understanding of the upcoming
changes. Later I want to set up a general meeting (or maybe Micronet
will do this) for a presentation about the changes to a broader
audience.
For the initial meeting, which needs to happen soon, I would like a
handful of volunteers who are experienced in the departmental
licensing and support for Microsoft products (operating systems,
applications, and server products). I would like to see what issues
come up when the Microsoft changes are described to people with
different perspectives. Having this small-group discussion will make
it easier to communicate the program changes to the campus as a whole.
Let me know if you'd like to volunteer for the small group.
Thanks.
