Sure...anywhere you can get an Internet connection (through a
commercial ISP, Internet cafe, friend's Internet connection, or
whatever), you can use telnet/ssh/Eudora/whatever to connect to
Socrates. So far as I know, there is nothing about socrates that's
restricted to connections coming from on-campus IP addresses (which
includes the modem pools).
