MAGNet,
We have many scanned images on a Kodak CD that was loaned to us for
our research project. When we first attempted to open the files on a
Mac G3, we got a message that indicated we did not have a compressor
installed (we have QuickTime Pro 4.1.2 with the accompanying Picture
Viewer 4.1.2). Fortunately, it came up with an automated link to the
Apple website and it updated some software that I did not identify
during the process. Now we can open the pictures directly.
Unfortunately, as the process was automated I did not make a note of
the site address nor the name of the installed file, and the update
download did not install anything on the desktop.
When we tried to open the same files directly on our G4, we did not
get the same automated message, although it also failed to open the
pictures directly. What happens is a short list of applications
appear in a dialogue window via MacLink translation, none of which
work. I am forced, instead, to open Photoshop first and then use the
menu open command to view the pictures.
So I searched the Apple website for "compressor" and found nothing.
I did locate an Apple page for extensions for Indeo Video, which were
related to compression problems for AVI, but the files we're trying
to open are not video.
Does anyone know what I should be installing on the G4 to make it
possible to open the compressed files?
Thanks very much.
John
