MAGNet,
Here's a description just e-mailed to me by one of our professors:
"I think I mentioned the problem of frequent crashes before but now
it seems to be happening almost every time I put the iBook to sleep.
The iBook is supposed to sleep either by closing the top or using the
sleep icon. In both cases the apple goes to sleep; however, when I
open the top, there is a blank screen [requiring rebooting] and the
iBook is also quite warm (almost as if it has been running with the
top closed). I have rebuilt the desktop and tried a shut down and
re-boot. Nothing seems to work."
He is using system 8.6. I went to the MacFixit site and found
comments on the lid sleep switch problem and on the less-than-ideal
sleep memory extension. I have forwarded that information to the
professor.
I was wondering, nevertheless, whether anyone has other ideas about
the cause of this trouble. Would upgrading the system help?
Thanks.
John
