a preliminary followup to my posting of last week regarding crashes during
large finder copies from an iMac DV (MacOS 9.04) to an imation superdisk:

disabling virex (6.1) scanning for ejectable volumes seems to have cleared
up the problem.

i am comfortable with this solution only because the imation drive is used
exclusively for personal backups by a single user. i have explained the
risks it entails to the user. i wish there was another way.
