Here's the agenda for today's 11:00 AM meeting.
* Discuss technical recommendations from subcommittee
* Timeline for report
Here are the tentative recommendations from the technical subcommittee.
Some require discussion with the larger group (as noted below).
* Accept dot, underscore, and dash, as well as alphanumerics.
(Do we place restrictions on all-numeric, etc., like uclink does?)
* Names should be at least 2 characters long, upper limit should be
very large.
* Web interfaces should be controlled by CalNet ID, and use SSL or the
AWS where appropriate.
* The service might be designed around many small rack-mount boxes
rather than one enormous multi-processor box. (The technical
requirements of the service make this attractive, but we're not
agreed on whether we want to make a recommendation).
* The service should support SMTP AUTH as early as it is feasible.
* (We don't know how to handle relaying otherwise--should recommendation
be for no relaying except SMTP AUTH?)
* The implementors should look into running a virus scanning software on the
service. (Don't want to limit ourselves to TrendMicro).
* Also possibly spam tagging.
