    The valid users database will eventualy be totally incorporated into
    the Community Profile Database. At this point the two databases
    are almost identical. LDAP/CalNet reads from the CPD.

    Expire dates are used somewhat differently in the two databases
    so it is possible that Jerry's counts include expired accounts.

    I checked and the Valid User database
    contains about 1300 entries for affiliates,
    postdocs, emeriti, retirees, and visitors
    plus about 900 entries for departmental accounts.

    So this is a substantial population.
    I believe valid users is the basis of Calnet/LDAP,
    but I'm not sure.
